Feb challenge - 'Rows of things'

Hi Everyone,

Well… the challenge for February's photo is 'Rows of things' so I went to the beach for a long walk to see if inspiration would strike…
Steps and posts

trees

posts

clouds

boats, masts and cottages

stones and wire

rusted metal

This turned out to be a fun project and in the space of an hour I found lots of subjects. It is nice to go out sometimes with your camera and have a specific theme in mind. It certainley makes you look at things differently.

Have fun with your camera this week

An Autumn walk

Hi there and welcome,

Our monthly competition for November is Autumn. The photos must be taken in this month (they check!) but I have found it hard to find much Autumn colour about as all the leaves have gone from the trees…O.K. I could be thinking outside the box as trees are a bit obvious!  However we did take the dog to the park a few weeks ago and I tried to capture what colour was left…

I haven't decided if I'm going to enter any of these but we enjoyed the walk anyway!

Have fun with your camera this week!

An Autumn photo shoot!

Hi Everyone

This week I want to share a few photos taken at a beautiful reservoir near my home. A friend and I had an afternoon to fill while the men were off at football. As the weather was so beautiful we decided to take our cameras and head off in to the hills.

Here are some of my photos…

I took my old trusty Canon with me as I find it easier to carry around and there was plenty of opportunities to take photos. The Autumn sunlight  cast beautiful shadows and played in the trees making the light really soft.  The blue sky reflected in the water was stunning.

I used the zoom lens to the max!

This was the view as we came back down into the village.
I stopped the car and scrambled up a bank to take this with a herd of cows looking on!

Have fun with your camera this week!

M for manual and Garden wildlife

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by.

Well… Another week has gone by and at camera club on Monday night we have been told to switch the camera setting to MANUAL. Yep… no longer in the comfort zone of AUTO or PROGRAM! Now we have to start working things out for ourselves! Apertures, Depth of field and ISOs… I'm totally confused but hey, as we were told, it costs nothing to have a play about and take some photos does it. Luckily I know how to DELETE!

Well… this week I have been chasing the wildlife around the garden and managed to get some OK pictures of the resident spiders. If you hate spiders look away now!…

OK, OK I know the background needs to be more blurred but I tried! She is particularly
gruesome. At club they suggested I spray the web with water before I took the shot! If she moved I'd scream being so close an all!  This photo is called "waiting for lunch!"

I have also been on the case of the Bees. They really like the sedums which are just coming into flower now..

I haven't quite mastered the Macro setting yet! Still I had fun and that's what it's all about right!

Have fun with your camera this week.

Take three photos.

Well… it was the first night at Camera club on Monday and about 15 new members turned up! Us newbies had been asked to bring along a memory stick with 3 photos on to show everyone!  Yikes no pressure!  Choosing just three photos from literally 100's was very difficult!  Eventually I decided on these three.

We went for a walk with the dog around a nearby golf course and these swans were on the lake. I liked the way the sun was dancing on the water.

This photo was taken on a walk starting from St. Davids in beautiful Pembrokeshire, around Non's bay.
(Non was St. David's mother in Welsh legend)  It was a beautiful day and the colours of the sea and rocks were just stunning.

Lastly this photo taken at RHS gardens in Wisley. They were celebrating the centenary of  WW1 and they had planted fields full of poppies. It was the first time I had used my new Samsung NX300 and was trying out the zoom/macro settings. Result!

Next week at club we have our first lesson on 'basic photography'.

Have fun with your camera this week

Summer as I see it….

Hi and welcome to my world as I see it literally Through the Lens of my camera.

I'm just a beginner really as far as the technical side of a camera goes and am excitedly waiting to join our local camera club. At the moment the AUTO button suits me just fine! But why not learn more about taking a good if not outstanding photo? Why not indeed. So this is what I will endeavour to do. This blog will be sharing my journey with my new camera, my sucesses and failures and snippets of what I learn…. and how I see the world through the lens of my camera.
